Fake it Till You Make it

Is it possible that, still to this day, I think to myself, ‘I cannot believe people come to ME to share their deepest thoughts and worries’?

Yes.

Everyday.

I think about this all the time and have developed quite a relationship with a sense of imposter syndrome. I value that feeling a lot. I share this with each practicum student I have and with my staff on a regular basis. It has allowed me to challenge myself to continue growing and learning. It inspires me to be curious and connected not only to my clients but also to myself.

You know that saying ‘fake it til you make it” – it’s true. Just put some good thought in to what it means to ‘make it’. If you can define it you can likely achieve it.

I have said many times to work WITH what you have rather than against it. So when it comes to feeling like an imposter in a part of your life, be curious! Reflect on what parts feel foreign or uneasy and challenge yourself. Be mindful of what you are capable of and how you can push yourself ‘just a little’.
