Jenna Fortinski is the creator of Simply Counselling Services, and as a Registered Psychologist, she recognizes the challenges people face when seeking counselling. She built a practice that ensures finding support is exactly how it should be, simple.

With an undergraduate degree in Psychology, a Master’s in counselling, and an extensive background working in Calgary area hospitals, Jenna built Simply Counselling on a firm foundation of experience and education.

Registered Psychologist

Kristin understands that people seek counselling for reasons that are not always easy to talk about. She strives to create a safe and compassionate space where clients can explore the reasons most important to them. Taking pride in being authentic and transparent throughout the therapy process, Kristin is passionate about working with people to explore their challenges, strengths, and opportunities for growth and change.

Over the course of her career, Kristin has worked with individuals, couples, and families to address many unique needs and concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions, emotional regulation, relationship issues, and many other life challenges.

Kristin has a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Calgary. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family outdoors and travelling.

Registered Psychologist

With a heart that cares deeply for others, Amanda is drawn to help people face life experiences in healthy, positive ways. Her approachable, calm demeanor helps clients feel at ease in sharing their unique memories and stories. Amanda tailors her approach to fit the particular needs of the client, which change as the client grows. She offers insight and guidance while helping clients articulate and work toward achieving their own goals. In her practice, she aims to strike a balance between showing kindness, understanding, and compassion, alongside the values of truth, integrity, and genuineness.

Amanda’s past work experience includes group and individual counselling of children, youth, and young adults, and conducting psychological assessments for students from preschool to university. Over the years, Amanda has worked alongside many professionals in mental health, and she appreciates learning from, and collaborating with, her colleagues and mentors.

Amanda is a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Amanda earned her doctoral degree in Psychology at Brock University in Ontario, with a specialization in developmental psychology. Amanda and her family recently relocated to Calgary and they are loving it! She is grateful for the opportunity to join the team at Simply Counselling, and looks forward to meeting you.

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Candace believes in humanizing the psychology experience by adapting her modality to fit the needs of every unique client. With experience in a variety of demographics in Canada and the United States, Candace has worked primarily with trauma, PTSD, sexual and domestic violence, and addictions. Candace holds a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, as well as advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This provides the opportunity to support those struggling with emotional vulnerabilities including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and low self-esteem.

From a strength-based approach, Candace strives to foster a positive and judgment free space for all clients. Candace has experience working in both clinical inpatient and outpatient settings, which has fostered her client centered approach. This allows her to meet clients where they are at in their therapeutic journey, with a goal of guiding clients to reach their individual potential and live their best lives.

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Sadaf is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with extensive experience in both clinical and counselling roles. She works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, with varying psychological concerns. She believes that therapy is a collaborative process and assists clients to progress in life by identifying and setting life goals for better mental health.

Sadaf uses different psychotherapy techniques, according to each client’s needs. She provides counselling to people with depression, anxiety, stress, mood disorders, self esteem, family issues, relationship difficulties, anger, grief or loss, trauma, marital problems, experience of abuse, domestic violence and cultural adjustments.

Sadaf is compassionate and multi-lingual, providing counselling services in English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. She holds a Bachelor of Science, Honors, and a Master’s degree in Psychology.

Clinical Social Worker/ Group Therapy Lead

Najwa is a therapist located in Calgary/Cochrane who specializes in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and their families. She is certified in offering Dialectical Behaviour Skills Training and facilitates adolescent dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) groups, and Circle of Security Caregivers groups.

Najwa is experienced in working with a wide range of teen mental health issues. As a result, she understands the emotional toll youth conflict can inflict on a family, particularly the caregivers, who are doing their best to support their teens. Najwa is recognized for effectively addressing ADHD, ODD, anxiety, substance abuse, depression, suicide attempts, and attachment issues in adolescents and youth, as well as trauma and personality disorders across all ages.

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Tara is passionate about improving the well being and quality of life of those she is supporting. She will compassionately and wholeheartedly listen to the challenges that are preventing you from living your preferred life.

Over her career, Tara has worked with youth, individuals and families on challenges with unhealthy thinking and behaviors, addictions to substances, psychosis, relationships, and regulating emotions. From this experience, Tara is able to use different therapeutic approaches to best meet your needs.

Tara believes in empowering clients to ultimately reach their potential.  Tara has a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University. She enjoys spending time with her pets, reading, and being with family.

Registered Psychologist

Debra has an extensive background working in community, educational and hospital settings providing individual, family, couple and group therapy. She is strength-based, relational, and believes in empowering clients to become the best versions of themselves.

She provides treatment to adults, children and adolescents struggling with a variety of mental health challenges including those related to anxiety, mood, social and behavioral, OCD, PTSD, relationships, learning related challenges, and grief and loss.

Debra incorporates several psychotherapeutic modalities into her practice and has the required training for many different approaches. She possesses a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Calgary; a Master of Arts in Child Studies from Concordia University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. She enjoys spending time with family, swimming and traveling.

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Bruce has been dedicated to improving the lives of others for many years in several different roles, including as a teacher in multiple hospital and mental health settings, Assistant Director at a mental health camp, and in leadership roles with the Calgary Board of Education. Bruce has completed research in education and chronic pain with clinicians and teachers at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, and research in school engagement. 

Bruce loves to help individuals, couples and families, and uses a variety of research-based interventions, including psychodynamic, Emotion Focused, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. 

Bruce is non-judgmental, and comes from a place of curiosity, supporting individuals to learn to adjust their sails so that they can go where they want to. Bruce holds a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of Lethbridge, an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degree’s from Lakehead University, and is close to completing an Honours Bachelor of Arts in a Research Specialist Psychology degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Registered Clinical Social Worker

Lea joins the team with a versatile background of over thirteen years of experience. She is passionate about working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Throughout her career, she worked with vulnerable individuals including children, youth and their families battling with various traumas and obstacles that can cause emotional pain. Lea is a wealth of knowledge and has connections to different community agencies and resources available to help you manage and navigate your life. She is compassionate, full of life and dedicated to working with her clients.

Lea is registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers and holds a Bachelors in Honors Developmental Psychology and a master’s in Clinical Social Work focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. During her leisure time, she enjoys travelling with her family and reading books.

Book with Louise (South Location)

Occupational Therapist

Louise is a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) in Alberta with 19 years of experience.  Occupational therapy focuses on both physical and mental health. OTs serve people with injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction and work to improve their clients’ capacity to participate in meaningful daily activities. Whether it’s personal hygiene and care, driving, working, leisure or learning, OTs help people with the skills required for the “job of living” within their community or chosen environment.

Louise’s passion is working with children and youth, with a focus on mental health. Additionally, Louise has worked with youth/families who are “super-feelers”, experiencing emotions and sensations much louder than other people which may lead to unworkable behaviours such as being a risk to self or others, including chronic isolation.

Louise is genuinely committed to engaging in a strong partnership with her clients.  She provides individual, family and group assessment, as well as interventions in various settings including schools and communities for youth aged 6 to 18.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, and a dual citizen of Australia, Olivia is a kind and understanding individual who enjoys helping others in need. With a wide and diverse set of experiences, Olivia has worked with many different populations, including clients who have experienced domestic violence, and those in crisis. Her skills of case management, case planning, and advocacy, provide a client-centered and trauma-informed approach to care, and she believes in fostering a relationship with clients through compassion and empathy. With volunteer experience across various organizations in Calgary, Olivia helps clients with goals they have in their lives related to finances, housing, and obtaining mental health support. Olivia has direct experience working with government employees including AISH, AB Works, and Child and Family Services workers.

In her spare time, Olivia enjoys hockey, camping, and spending time with her family. Olivia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently completing her Master’s degree in Counselling at City University in Calgary.

Our Support Staff

Another important aspect of Simply Counselling is education and expansion. Education Director Nicki Kirlin uses her background in health services to research new strategies and techniques, offer education opportunities for staff and clients, and provide the practice with strategic planning in the specialized areas of addictions and mental health.

Nicki has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with Honours, and a Masters of Public Health. Her education along with her experience and passion for working with diverse individuals allows Simply Counselling to offer the best services to fit any individual’s needs.

Making sure that clients can access information and services with ease, is Cheryl Nixon.

As the first point of contact for most clients, Cheryl is an integral part of Simply Counselling.

Her top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, expertise in providing exceptional service, and care for client comfort ensures that each client has a seamless experience.

Amber is willing and eager to assist clients in need of administrative support at Simply Counselling Services.
She is reliable, friendly and outgoing, and her goal is to ensure all clients are cared for in an efficient and professional manner.
Amber is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Psychology, as well as minoring in Sociology at the University of Calgary.
